Quebec’s cultural sector is mobilizing in response to a budget reform that would merge the protected funding allocations for school field trips into a broader budget, potentially jeopardizing students’ access to these trips.

“In 2023–2024, the measure enabled 1.1 million students to participate in more than 50,000 school field trips to cultural venues. Ninety-five percent of the protected budget was utilized, greatly benefiting young people and their teachers. The measure’s success was based on two things: dedicated budgets and clear guidelines.”

In this open letter published in Le Devoir and the Journal de Montréal, several stakeholders in the sector, notably the RQD, are calling on the government to preserve the budgets dedicated to culture in schools and cultural field trips.
